Hi! I’m Rose Lagacé, a Toronto-based production designer and the editor of Art Departmental.
I am passionate about bringing insight into the world of production design and the art department for film and television. I’ve been sharing this passion here online with professionals, technicians, fans, and creatives alike since 2009.
Art Departmental is my attempt to help you get excited about production design while learning what we do in the art department. I am madly in love with my job as a production designer, and I hope I can glean some light on this exciting profession.
This website was founded at a point when I felt helpless and alone with very few mentors to be found. These days, I don’t have this issue, but I will never forget those early days. I am now determined that no one starting out in the art department ever feel as alone on their journey as I did.
If you can’t find a mentor, at least you’ll have me. You’ll have this website to point you in the right direction. That’s what I want for you and for everyone who is confused about their way forward. Let me help you.
I thank you for coming along for the ride, and I genuinely look forward to learning and growing together with all of you.
