In three brand new ads by creative advertising agency Publicis, global furniture tycoon Ikea recreates sets from the iconic series Friends, Stranger Things, and The Simpsons using only their own furniture to complete each look. My favourite one is their fun recreation of the purple Friends living room set, originally production designed by John Shaffner. The Stranger Things living room set, originally production designed by Chris Trujillo, is pretty darn cute too.
I do wish they would have mentioned the original production designers who created the look, but that’s probably asking too much from a large corporation. I wonder if they were granted clearance to do this by each production company and studio?
According to Vinod Jayan in Ad Week, “The Ikea team worked closely with the creatives for months. They went through hundreds of items to find the perfect pieces that would bring those iconic rooms. It was a great collaborative effort that led up to a stunning result. A true testament of what IKEA represents: a place where everyone can bring whatever idea they see or have to life.”
In the coming weeks, the sets will also be making an appearance in select Ikea stores in the Middle East. Given all the great press and warm media reception, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing these sets around the world soon enough.
