The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday that they are extending invitations to join AMPAS to 398 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures including 21 new invitations to the AMPAS Production Design Branch.

The invited creatives to the Production Design Branch include: 7 Production Designers, 3 Art Directors, 3 Set Decorators, 1 Property Master, 3 Location Managers, and 4 Concept Artists and Storyboard Artists. If everyone invited accepts their invitations, the Academy’s overall membership of all 18 branches will grow to 9,375.
The current Board of Governors in the Production Design Branch are Production Designers Tom Duffield and Wynn Thomas, and Set Decorator Missy Parker.
“The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in a joint statement.
Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion, and equity remaining a priority. Of the 2023 class: 40% identify as women, 34% belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 52% are from 50 countries and territories outside the United States. There are 76 Oscar nominees, including 22 winners, among the invitees. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2023.
