Roberto Cavalli’s House in Florence is the Ultimate Guy Pad

If you just heard a noise it was probably the sound of my jaw-dropping to the floor as I looked at photos of Roberto Cavalli’s house in the feature, ‘Ultimate Guy Pad’ in T Magazine‘s Design and Living Summer 2009 issue. Roberto Cavalli commissioned Italian architect Italo Rota to design and construct this glorious structure in Florence on his 32 acre property. There is a beautiful steel sculptural staircase that is to die for inside his lovely home located in the hills of Florence, Italy. Even the colour of the house can be changed to match the mood of the home owner. Cavalli has stated he believes the world is a jungle, and Italo certainly brings the vibe of the jungle to the stunning metal lacework that surrounds the home and obscures the interior.

Roberto Cavalli is an Italian fashion designer and inventor. He is known for exotic prints and for creating the sand-blasted look for jeans. The high-end Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli sells luxury clothing, perfume and leather accessories. Cavalli has two homes in Florence. The other is slightly more antiquated but equally as ornate in his signature style which you can see in the portrait below as he sits beside several Chihuly pieces.

Italo Rota is an award-winning architect born in Milan who graduated in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic. In 1980 he collaborated with Aulenti and Castiglioni on the designs that won the contest for Interior Design held by the Musée d’Orsay and the Centre Beaubourg in Paris. In 1990 he initiated the planning of the Centre for Post-Graduate Studies at Columbia University. Later on, in 1996, Italo returned to Italy where he has been living in Milan. This marked the beginning of a highly creative phase including projects that ranged from museum installations and the Maison Cavalli (the showroom cafés in Miami, Milan and Moscow) to a series of interest from architecture, fashion and design enthusiasts. Among the recent projects: the renovation of Palazzo Forcella – De Seta and the Marine Station at the harbour in Palermo; a Hindu temple and a private mansion in Bombay; a series of squares and public spaces in different Italian cities and the project for the new Museum of Modern Art at the Arengario in Milan.

It’s safe to say my new fashion designer obsession for the next few months will be Roberto Cavalli. Below are some pictures I found of this stunning home.
