The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) is set to pay homage to the late Lawrence G. Paull, a distinguished production designer who left an indelible mark on the film industry. The Hall of Fame Honour will be bestowed upon Paull during the 28th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards ceremony at the Ray Dolby Ballroom, Ovation Hollywood, on February 10th, 2024. This announcement was made by the award show producers Michael Allen Glover and Megan Elizabeth Bell.

Lawrence G. Paull, who passed away in 2019, is renowned for his groundbreaking work that continues to inspire filmmakers and captivate audiences. Notably, he served as the production designer for the iconic Blade Runner, a film that not only propelled the sci-fi genre forward but also left an enduring impact on cinema itself. ADG President Nelson Coates expressed, “The groundbreaking work of Lawrence Paull continues to be a great inspiration for the many members of the ADG and storytellers throughout the industry.”
Paull’s illustrious career includes notable contributions to films such as Back to the Future, Romancing the Stone, City Slickers, Harlem Nights, and Escape from L.A. His influence extends beyond his filmography; after retiring, Paull played a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Production Design at Chapman University and the American Film Institute.
The Art Directors Guild Awards Hall of Fame honour, a fitting tribute to Paull’s legacy, will be presented alongside other Excellence in Production Design Awards during the upcoming ceremony. The ADG Awards nominations are eagerly awaited and are scheduled to be announced on January 9, 2024. Lawrence G.
