The British Film Designers Guild Production Design Awards nominees were announced today online from London. Final voting is now in progress. The 2021 BFDG Awards winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony on May 16th, 2021 at 7PM from London.
These awards celebrate the extraordinary talent of the British Art Department through 14 categories. The nominated film and television projects include at least one BFDG member in a senior art department role with a 2020 release date. Added this year are 3 new categories including Best Production Design – Commercial, Best Production Design – Short Film, and Outstanding Contribution to the Art Department. The Lifetime Achievement winner will be announced at a later date.
The Spotlighting New Talent Award has been renamed the Peter Lamont Award dedicated to the memory of esteemed British Production Designer Peter Lamont. Peter sadly passed away December 18, 2020. He was a pivotal and valued member of the British Film Designers Guild who supported a wealth of new members throughout his illustrious career.
The British Film Designers Guild was initially formed in 1946 with the aim of raising the standards and profile of the Art Department in the UK and protecting the interests of its members. Today, the BFDG have over 450 members who are skilled technicians and designers, spanning the various branches of the art department in film and television.
