Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh’s Best Production Design Oscar Speech

Production Designer Barbara Ling and Set Decorator Nancy Haigh win the Best Production Design Oscar and thank their crews.

Last night Once Upon A Time In Hollywood received the Academy’s vote for Best Production Design. This made it only the seventh time a woman has ever won the Best Production Design Oscar. We were happy to see Production Designer Barbara Ling and Set Decorator Nancy Haigh take home this tremendous honour upon her first nomination in such a strong category.

“Thank you and we share this with our incredible art department.”

I was rather disappointed with Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig’s introduction of the category but it didn’t diminish Barbara and Nancy’s big win. As always it was so nice to see a Production Designer and Set Decorator take the stage and thank their crew the way Barbara and Nancy did. On a period film as sprawling as Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, their crew must have worked miracles on tight deadlines.

It was also great to see Set Decorator Nancy Haigh receive her much deserved time at the podium and not be cut off before she could finish unlike last year when Set Decorator Jay Hart was mercilessly cut off by the overbearing music cue. This was her eighth nomination and second win.

Nancy Haigh’s Best Production Oscar Speech:

A huge shout out to all the people who helped put us here tonight: the craftsman, the construction guys, the painters, our Prop Master Chris Call, and of course my gang, Mark and Sara and Jonesy and Adam, and everybody. I appreciate it so much.
