This year BAFTA hosted a BAFTA production design panel before the EE British Academy Film Awards. It was a lively panel held on Saturday, February 17th at Princess Anne Theatre in London giving the rare chance to hear from this year’s nominees and world leading film practitioners from the Production Design category. The audience was also given an opportunity to ask questions.
All of the BAFTA 2018 nominees for Best Production Design joined the panel to discuss production design. The 2018 BAFTA-nominated panelists included production designer Paul Denham Austerberry for his work on The Shape of Water, production designer Sarah Greenwood with set decorator Katie Spencer for their work on both Beauty and the Beast and Darkest Hour, production designer Nathan Crowley for his work on Dunkirk, and last but not least production designer Dennis Gassner for his work on Blade Runner 2049.
BAFTA Guru released the video of the panel discussion event today. You can now watch the event below.

Now that you’ve heard each production design team discuss their work, which team are you rooting for to win the best production design Oscar tomorrow night? I’ll be perfectly honest- I’m team Shape of Water. That film is so unique and beautiful. I am very happy Paul won the BAFTA for Best Production Design for The Shape of Water. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Academy Awards bring tomorrow.
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
